We at SEMCOM strive to excel not only in academic but also galvanize students to conquer and have all-round escalation by orchestrating various co-curricular activities for their
paramount development. In order to groom our students, we also conduct intellectually stimulating events such as Essay Writing, Debate, Best Business Idea Contest, Ad-Making Competition, Green Business Technology Fair, Management Film Making Competition, Techno Fest, and E-Biz Summit.
SEMCOM curriculum absorbs various Talent Search Programs. Our Social undertaking resonates in our students who organize Blood Donation Camps, Medical Checkup Camps, and Tree Plantation.
The paramount development march of our students is reflected in the various activities organized by the college.
Students’ Council
The Students’ Council contours distinct committees like Industry Interaction Committee, Thinking Hats Committee, Placement Committee, Environment
Initiatives Committee, Social Outreach Cell, Event Management Committee, College Governance Committee, Sports Committee, Aura Band, SETU-Web Hosting Committee, Hostel Committee, Social Media committee, etc. It has the credit of orchestrating many events and sponsoring various events and competitions.
To break the monotony of the routine at college Students’ Council organizes a number of colorful events such as CorporateDay, Traditional Day, Denim Day, Thought of the Day, Teachers Day, Ratri B4 Navratri, Signature Day, Go Green Day etc. Sports Committee of Students’ Council actively involves in the promotion of various sports events among students such as
SEMCOM Football League and SEMCOM Premier League.
Orientation Program for First Semester Students
The College welcomes its new batch every year in a unique style. It has been always our effort to create a healthy environment for the new entrants to interact with faculty members and also among themselves so that they learn more about the college and its faculty members, right from day one. With this aim, a two day Orientation Program is organized for the new students of BBA, BCA, BCOM, BBA-ITM & Master in E-Business. During the program the students introduces themselves. Sessions are conducted to make students aware of Vallabh Vidyanagar, Charutar Vidya Mandal, Library Facilities, Rules & Regulations and various activities of the College. Moreover, the cultural evening makes the program enjoyable and gives the new comers an opportunity to exhibit their talents.
SEMCOM organized cultural evening programme under orientation programme of first year students. As a part of this programme all the students of B.Com, BCA, BBA & BBA-ITM where taken for AMUL visit on the first day for a real life business experience. Thereafter sessions were conducted covering various aspects such as examination, assignment, attendance, co-curricular activities, rules, policies, etc. on the 2nd day. Students of commerce and management have to train themselves for team work, team spirit and team building. The leadership lessons are not only taught in the classroom but through each and every activity the student is engaged in the college. The cultural evening programme gave a good opportunity to newly admitted students to showcase their talents in music, dance, skit, mime, one act and mimicry. Students of all the streams enthusiastically took part in all the events. In all 200 students participated in the various events. They were trained by seniors of their respective streams. The entire event was organized by Mr. Renil Thomas and Dr. Preeti Luhana Vice President of Student’s Council 2017-18 along with the class counselors of B.Com, BCA, BBA & BBA-ITM. Dr. Waheeda Thomas, Principal SEMCOM College, congratulated the entire team for putting their best efforts.
Industrial tour
Educational tour is an integral component of education at SEMCOM for it provides the practical exposure to business environment. This year nearly 200 students participated in one day educational tours. SEMCOM students visited industries in the states of Uttarakhand, Punjab and Gujarat. They visited Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, ONGC, Shah Paperplast, Hero Cycles, Anuradha Textiles, ATLAS Cycles, Satyendra Packaging, Laxmi Protein Products, NISOL, GMM PFaudler and Sweety Industries.
Personality Development Program
SEMCOM is convinced that a good personality is an inevitable tool of crossing the threshold of success in the world. Under PDP to each class, the students were briefed about various aspects of personality development which helped them enrich their self-perception, self-awareness and confidence.
Parents’ Meeting
To discuss the growth of students, parents meeting was organized for all the under-graduate classes. More than 600 parents attended the meeting and they took the over-all feedback from the concerned class-counselors and all the subject teachers about the growth of their child at SEMCOM.
Young Voters’ Club
Voting is a unique fundamental right of each Indian citizen, which makes our democracy stronger. At our college we have formed Young Voters Club which helps students with the On-line voters registration form. 33 students participated in Young Voters' Club Poster-making competition at the College. The same was held at District-leve, "SWEEP"organized by Election Commission of India where five students participated out of which one student won the prize in the same.
Patriotic Song Competition
Independence Day was celebrated with a difference. Teachers at SEMCOM are convinced that we should infuse the spirit of patriotism in our students. This year along with Patriotic song competition Tri-colour competition was also organized.
Fine Arts Workshop & Competition
More than 143 students actively participated in Fine arts workshop followed by various fine arts competition such as Collage-Making, Poster-Making, cartooning, On the spot Painting, best out of waste, Rangoli and Clay Modeling. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Krishna Padiya, Mr. Rajendra Thanki and Ms. Avani Patel (CVM College of FineArts).
Medical Checkup
The college conducted medical checkup for all the first year students in association with Shri. Krishna Medical College, Karamsad. More than 300 students had the benefit of medical checkup.
The college took upon itself to conduct Thalassemia test for all the final year students. We thank Charutar Vidya Mandal for subsidizing the cost. The Thalassemia test was conducted with the assistance and cooperation of Red Cross Society.
CSR/Social Outreach Activities
Under the auspices of Social Outreach Cell students of SEMCOM planted 70 trees at Dharmaj and Kasor, 110 students of the college participated in the activity with three faculties serving as Activity Cordinators. On occasion of Kargil Day students of SEMCOM donated 49 bottles of blood in a single day. In association with Red Cross Society, Anand , college collected 114 bottles of blood.
Sports
A healthy mind can reside only in a healthy body. Since the inception of SEMCOM sports activities have received great attention. Throughout the year SEMCOM students participated in various inter-collegiate and inter-university sports events. During the year 2015-16 SEMCOM won various inter-collegiate sports events at S P University where Championships were won in Football (boys), Lawn Tennis (boys & girls) and Runners up in Basketball (boys and girls). students also won and Tennis (boys & girls), Beach Football (boys) in Khel Mahakumbh Distict-level competitions. Girls team stood 2nd in YMCA Volleyball tournament. In Athletes' Meet 2015-16, SEMCOM was Champion in 200 Mtrs. (girls), and Runners-up in 100 Mtrs. (girls), 4X100 Relay Race (girls & boys).
Annual Sports Day was organized on 30-Dec-2015. Mr. Bimal Jadiya was the chief guest. More than 1000 students took partin various events such as 100 meters run, javelin throw, high jump, 200 meters run, shot-put throw, long jump and discuss throw. In addition inter-class tug-of-war and Relay Race were also organized.
Youth Festival
It is an inter-collegiate competition organized by Sardar Patel University where many colleges and departments participated. It was a four day event with various competitions in the areas of dramatics, fine arts, music, dance and literature.
SEMCOM took part in quiz and won second prize in the same at Youth Festival. One of the students represented SPU in West Zone Quiz.
Rangmanch
SEMCOM organized ‘RANGMANCH’ Competition, A Theatre Event on 24th July, 2017. The competition was inter-stream, wherein the students from BCOM, BBA, BBA ITM and BCA took part and 32 students performed in various theatre events like mime, skit, monologue and improvisation. Renowned theater artists such as Shri Kanubhai Patel, Mr. Predeepkumar Patel, free lance writer, actor and director, Mr. Deep Vaidya, a theater artist, actor, comedian were invited to judge the competition. Organizing such events provides a very good platform for the students to show case their hidden talents, creativity and skills. College believes that conducting such events helps to develop positive attitude and all round development of the students.
This event has enabled the students to bring out their hidden theater skills and it also helps to develop future theatre artists, actors, comedians, directors and producers in the theatre field. Arranging such events arouses and cultivates interest amongst the students to aspire their future career in theatre and prepare them as excellent leaders.
The event was a grand success due to the endless efforts of The Vice President of the students council Dr. Preeti Luhana, coordinators of the competition Ms. Joe Mary George and Ms. Jenita Patel.
